Rising Fuel Taxes: Protesters Calling for President Macron Resignation Clash with Police
There has been another clash between the French police and Anti--government protesters in Paris on Saturday, as demonstrations against the French President, Emmanuel Macron continues .
It was learnt that the demonstrators, in yellow vests symbolizing their movement were throwing projectiles at the French police who were preventing them from 'moving along the famed shopping avenue, which was decked out in twinkling Christmas lights.'
According to Christophe Castaner, the City Police Department and Interior Minister, not less than 130 people has been arrested by the Police while about 25 others were injured including five police officers.
The protesters have been calling on President Macron to resign.
I'm not just fighting against the price of fuel. It's about tax, what we pay," a protester, Catherine Marguier told AFP near the village of La Gravelle in northwest France.
Meanwhile, President Macron while expressing displeasure on the latest demonstration in Paris, he says, "Shame" on those who assaulted or intimidated citizens, journalists and politicians. Added that, "There is no place for violence in the (French) Republic."
The demonstrations which started a week ago, have currently left two people dead, over 750 people, including 136 police officers injured.
