Asimiyu Michael, A.K.A Okiki Jesu

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Asimiyu Michael. I am a Gospel Artist, and my band name is Okiki Jesu Gospel Singer. Some people call me by the name of my first album APOTI ERI. So, call me Okiki Jesu or Apoti Eri any of the two goes. I sing not only to strengthen the beliefs of the Christians but also to win more souls, and I have been doing this by performing at vigils, thanksgiving, anniversaries and other gatherings purposely to win souls.

Why are you into gospel music?

Firstly, I received a call from the holy spirit to go into gospel music few months after I converted from Islam to Christianity about 9years ago. It was after the call i started composing to win souls into the kingdom of the Lord.

Tell us about your background

I am an indigene of Ibadan, for both of my parents are also hailed from the ancient city. Besides, my both parents are Muslims. It was 2010 I singly converted to Christianity.

What are your inspirations?

Before i was directed by the holy spirit to go into Gospel music after my conversion, i got some in inspirations from some gospel songs i listened to at that time. Those songs didn't let me take the call with frivolity, for I knew and felt the effects of the songs in my new life. It's at that point spirit of singing started coming over me. The inspirations and the call have made it possible for me to forge ahead because nobody sings in my family, I happened to be the first.

What do you most enjoy doing?

I was a footballer before i became Christian. I so much had passion for football and always viewed myself as a future professional footballer, which was why anything I did was to ensure the dream become a reality. There was a total change when I converted to Christianity and received a call to go into gospel music. I now most enjoy singing to win souls into the kingdom of God. Singing always makes me feel onto of the world.

What other jobs do you do other than being a gospel singer?

I am a cobbler as well as house painter. House painting is my father's occupation and I learnt it from him.

What do you dislike about your profession?

About being a gospel singer, I dislike nothing.

What are your goals?

My goals as a gospel singer are to win more souls into christian; to get people closer to God through my songs; to remind people not only about the words of God, but also to act as being commanded by God.

What wouldn't you do without?

First thing I wouldn't do without since I started singing gospel songs has been my BIBLE. Also, I do go virtually everywhere with my jotter and pen because as a singer inspiration may come anytime and you may need to jot down something.

Who are your favourite Artists?

I love virtually all the gospel singers but there will always be favourites. Among these favourites are Pa. Ojo Ade, Pa. Niyi Adedokun and Lady Evangelist Tope Alabi. I hardly do without their songs.

Talk about 3 of your hit tracks

My first album is APOTI ERI, most of my hit tracks are contained in this album. One of these tracks is Kadara o Papo, a track that talks about destiny. Omo Ologo is another hit track that talks about the challenges one has to face before reaching his or her glory. Turn Around the World happens to be another hit track which appreciates footballers and encourages them. I dedicated this track to the footballers because I was once a footballer, and I know what it takes to be a footballer.

I welcome any invitation from bible programmes organized to win souls and strengthen people's beliefs. I also attend such events anywhere outside Ibadan.
