Communications Minister Orders Telecom Operators to Suspend the Proposed USSD Charges

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami has on Thursday directed all the telecom operators in to immediately suspend the new USSD charges for banking transactions.

He gave the directive as a result of what he described as 'no justification' for the new tariff.

Telecoms operators in the country have been charging their customers who bank with their mobile line through the individual bank's USSD codes since Oct. 21st this year.

After receiving briefing about the proposed USSD charges, I realized there was no justification for the new tariff, consequently, I directed it's immediate suspension, any telecom operator that violates this directive would be sanctioned appropriately.@DrIsaPantami #FMoCDEtoday pic.twitter.com/J2967OA8tZ
