Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu will be the cynosure of all eyes as from next week as one of the fastest growing private Universities marks its 7th year Convocation ceremonies.
Dignitaries from all walks of life from the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the Executive governors of the 6 South-Western States of Osun, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo and Lagos, Ministers, royal fathers, academic juggernauts as well as lovers and well wishers of the University are expected to grace the different activities lined up for the 2-day celebrations.
According to a release from the office of the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs) Adeline Adeyemi activities to mark 7th Convocation ceremony of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu will kick off on Wednesday, 27th of November with a Press Briefing by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Chibuzo N. Nwoke by 10:00 am at Oba Okunade Sijuwade Hall of the institution. This will be followed by the Convocation Lecture titled: Banditry, Kidnapping and Insurgency in Nigeria: A Gradual Regression into a Failed State.
The Guest Speaker for lecture which is slated for 3:00pm at the same venue is Professor Tunji Olaopa.
The Convocation Play titled: “Oya” by Lekan Balogun is scheduled to hold at the same venue by 5:00 pm.
The grand finale of the programme which is the award of Postgraduate Degrees, 1st Degrees and Award of Prizes will hold on Thursday, 28th November at Ramon Adegoke Adedoyin Presidential Hall by 12:00noon.
Also at the convocation ceremony, one of the foremost traditional rulers, Forbes rated richest monarch in Nigeria and second richest in Africa, the Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Fredrick Enitiolorunda Obateru Akinrutan will be conferred with a honourary doctorate degree in Public Administration.
A Convocation Get together party will hold at the Utility Hall of the institution by 5:00pm
The release advised parents of the graduands and guests to be seated by 11:30 am.
This year’s convocation is special not only because it is the 7th but also because it is coincides with the 10th year anniversary of the institution which was celebrated earlier in the month with an Inter-Religious service at the institution premises.
Since Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu secured her operational licence on the 3rd of November, 2009; it has been growing in leaps and bounds.
From just two Colleges, the College of Management and Social Sciences and College of Natural and Applied Sciences when it was licensed in 2009, Oduduwa University today is steadily entering maturity as it now has in addition to these; College of Environmental Design and Management, College of Engineering and Technology as well as the College of Postgraduate College, while the College of Law, College of Medical Sciences and College of Education are billed to take off soon.
The number of courses and programmes have also increased tremendously with the university conveniently boasting of over 19 courses and programmes spread across the various Colleges, all accredited by the National Universities Commission with some approved up to the PhD level.
Over the years, the University has produced over 2,000 graduates spread across the 6 convocation ceremonies held between 2013 and 2018. Many notable and distinguished Nigerians both from the public and private sectors have been given honourary doctorate degrees and awards and have openly identified with the vision of the institution.
Structurally, a university which started with just 2 U-buildings housing the College of Management and Social Sciences and College of Natural and Applied Sciences can today boast of numerous imposing architectural edifices like the Multimillion Naira Library, the Senate Building, Oba Okunade College of Environmental Design and Management, the College of Law Building, the Ramon Adegoke Adedoyin Presidential Hall, Chief Agboola Odeyemi Hall, the Postgraduate College Building among many others while many structures are at various levels of completion.
