A bill proposing a single term of six years for President, Governors, and a six-year term for lawmakers both at the state and federal level has failed to scale through the second reading in the House of Representatives.
Most of those who spoke during the debate on the bill expressed their opposition to it. The sponsor, however, stated that lawmakers did not understand the intent of the bill. When the Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase, who presided over the plenary, put to voice vote, passage of the bill for second reading, the lawmakers overwhelmingly voted against it.
