Adedoyin becomes PAPEF Patron, Promises Operation Vehicle

The Maye of Yorubaland and the Chancellor, Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu-Ife North Local Government, His Royal Eminence (Dr) Ramon Adegoke Atobatele Adedoyin has been appointed as the Patron of the Ife Area Command of the Police and Personality Forum (PAPEF) at the inauguration of the forum last week in Ile-Ife.

Speaking at the occasion, the State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Ige disclosed that the Police and Personality Forum is a forum made up of eminent personalities in the community who are expected to serve not only as the eyes and ears of the police but also the mouth so that the Nigeria Police will be able to achieve more in the protection of lives and properties.

She noted that the Police can do more with the assistance of members of the communities they are protecting adding that community policing is to synergise members of the public to ensure that there is peace and absence of threat to life and properties.

According to the Police Commissioner, apart from acting as the police in the community, the Forum is also expected to draw the attention of the Police authorities to instances of lapses on the part of their personnel or when improvements are needed.

She appealed to the members of the Forum to assist the Police through the provision of logistics that will make their job easier as the government alone cannot fully provide everything the Nigeria Police needed.

In his own remarks, the Maye of Yorubaland and Chancellor, Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu-Ife North Local Government, His Royal Eminence (Dr.) Ramon Adegoke Atobatele Adedoyin while commending Police Commissioner Abiodun, observed that Ife and indeed the State of Osun has been enjoying relative peace because of the efforts of hardworking and resourceful officers posted to Ife and the state in general.

He enjoined members of the public not to leave policing to the police alone noting that ensuring the security of lives and properties is everyone’s business.

While also promising the donation of an operational vehicle to the police, he pledged his assistance and cooperation to the Forum at all time.

Also speaking at the event, one of the Royal Fathers present, the Olubosin of Ifetedo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Akinola Akinrera commended the State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Ige for the initiative.

He noted that after good health, the most important thing to man is security and as such it is the duty of every member of the society.

The monarch enjoined members of the society to always assist the Police by providing information that will help them in preventing as well as solving crime adding that in doing so, they are not only helping the police but also helping the society.

The Chairman, Ife Central Local Government Council, Honourable Elugbaju who spoke on behalf of the 6 local government chairmen present while also commending the Police Commissioner for the initiative sought the cooperation of all to ensure a peaceful and secured environment.

He promised the assistance and cooperation of all the 6 Local Government Councils with the Police even as they jointly pledged to purchase a security vehicle for their operations.

Many other speakers at the event comprising of royal fathers, eminent personalities and leaders of thought in Ife Area Command also emphasised the need for all and sundry to assist the Nigeria Police in their efforts to keep the society safe.

Aside the inauguration of the Forum, the occasion was also used to elect and inaugurate the executive members of the Ife Area Command of the Forum by the State Police Commissioner.
