When A Paid Piper Refuses to Follow The Tune, The Payer Should not Hesitate to Replace Her

Hajia Sadiya Farouq

Sadiya Umar Farouq was appointed as a minister by President Buhari to head a new ministry created by this current administration to mainly cater for the POOREST among the poor and the vulnerable ones in Nigeria. The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has been since its existence last year July managing by this woman.

In September last year, a part of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) which has been in existence before the creation of the new ministry,  Npower, was moved from the Office of the Vice President,  Yemi Osinbajo, to the new ministry. Ever since the movement, the Npower beneficiaries have not been paid as at when due, unlike when the Vice President was in charge.

In last year,  these beneficiaries whose stipend is pegged at just 30k monthly were not paid for the months of October and November until December. Justifying the delay, the Humanitarian Minister said the delay was as a result of the movement of the program, Npower, from the Office of the Vice President to Her Ministry, so transferring of beneficiaries data responsible for the delay. The minister in an address later said the delay would not be experienced again, that the stipends would be paid from 27th of every month to the beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries of Npower, consisting of unemployed graduates with many married men and women, who serve as teachers in primary and secondary schools, health workers in the primary health centers and the agricultural sector in all the 774 Local Government in the country have not been paid as at when due since the change in the administration.  They're not paid until second week of another month. There was a time that the clamouring of these beneficiaries got to the National Assembly,  the minister was queried. The beneficiaries’ belief was that there would be no more delay in the payment,  but the belief was wrong because they've not been paid not until middle of another month for the previous month.

Some people accused of the minister of fixing the money meant for the stipend so as to get some interest before paying these unemployed beneficiaries whose lives solely depend on it.
The question is, what can be done to avoid the delay in payment of the stipends of this beneficiaries?

There has been no sensible justifications from the minister as to why the beneficiaries have not been paid their stipends as at when due.

Nobody dare speaks against the injustice and maltreatment from the minister, Hajia Sadiya Farouk. She's even being referred to as “SUPER MINISTER”. Not even the one who appoints her has been able to call her to order.

Those within the ministry have written a petition against her. The Npower beneficiaries have no power over this minister than to call on Mr. President not to allow this woman destroy the aims and goals of the existence of Npower and other social investment programmes.

Seven out of ten Npower beneficiaries would call on this woman to resign. Eight out of ten people working in the ministry would also call for her resignation.
No leader can succeed when the followers do not willingly accept him or her to lead them.

President Buhari needs to look into the administration of Hajia Sadiya Farouq before the minister destroys the good intentions of Mr. President for setting up that ministry. Nobody has been speaking good about this minister, not even those within the ministry. Nigerians and some other stakeholders of the NSIP are not happy with the administration of Hajia Sadia Umar Farouq.
