Oduduwa Varsity holds 1st Virtual Seminar on 5G Technology

One of the fastest growing universities in Nigeria, Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Ife North Local Government held its first virtual seminar on Friday the 23rd of July, 2021 at the Model Lecture Room of the University.

The seminar which is the first of its kind in the history of the institution was jointly hosted by the Department of Physics and Computer Science, Ramon Adedoyin College of Natural and Applied Science (RACONAS) with the theme: “5G Technology: Opportunities and Challenges For The Nigeria Economy”.  

The Vice Chancellor Oduduwa University, Prof. Benjamin Aribisala while welcoming the two guests speakers, Dr Gbenga Ogunmodimu from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom and Mr Bolaji Ojediran from the Lagos State University, both of whom delivered their lectures virtually, as well as other all the participants in the virtual lecture expressed his delight on the great feat and success of the first virtual seminar in the history of Oduduwa University. 

The Vice Chancellor emphasised on the relevance of the theme, 5G Technology and its importance to the growth and sustainability of a growing economy describing it as very timely.. 

In the course of the meeting Dr Ogunmodimu and Mr Ojediran explained that the 5G technology as a wireless communication technology, is more reliable than previous technologies and is capable of enhancing effective communication as a result of its transmission speed. 

The speakers explained that the 5G technology will contribute to the growth of the Nigerian economy especially in the agricultural, manufacturing, health care, and educational as well as Information and Communication Technology sectors. 

The moderators of the seminar, Dr Kesinro and Dr Ayilara-Adewale both of Physics and Computer Science departments respectively, took turns in presenting the questions collated from participants at the seminar to the two guest speakers. 

Questions addressed ranged from the hazards of 5G technology as regards health, marketing and security issues as well as how 5G technology will create mechanisms to correct the anomalies bedevilling these sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Other participants at the seminar included the Registrar of Oduduwa University, Dr Adeline Adeyemi, the Provost Ramon Adedoyin College of Natural and Applied Sciences, Dr Evelyn Fatokun and several other academic staff of Oduduwa University.

One of the guest speakers, Dr Olugbenga Ogunmodimu works at the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester, United Kingdom while Mr Bolaji Alaba OJEDIRAN is an IT Process Automation Expert, a Certified Computer Forensic Examiner and a System Analyst at the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology at Lagos State University, Lagos, Nigeria.
