| Maye of Yoruba Land, Dr. Abdulrahaman Adedoyin |
"Maye is NOT Ooni. Maye's dressing in traditional attires does not confer or transform and/or portray him as the Ooni. Maye sitting on special chairs at times does not confer the title of Ooni on him"
The story of the Ife born Prince, a business mogul and renowned educationist, Dr. Abdulrahaman Atobatele Adegoke Adedoyin is a success story birthed in hard work, dogged determination, consistency and persistence of purpose.
From a humble home lesson teacher in the early 80s, Dr. Adedoyin emerged as the first Nigerian to establish a private polytechnic in Nigeria; The Polytechnic, Ife. The Polytechnic, Ile-Ife, Osun State ranks among the best private polytechnics in Nigeria.
As an Ife son worthy of emulation, Dr. Adedoyin is presently the only Nigerian that has two private polytechnics in Nigeria, namely; The Polytechnic, Ile-Ife, Osun State and Oduduwa Polytechnic, Lagos and three Universities in and outside Nigeria; Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Ife North Local Government; all in Nigeria; and Our Saviors University of America, Delaware, USA and Unique Citizens (University) College, Accra, Ghana.
Dr. Adedoyin has consistently been investing in Ile-Ife and helping Ife sons and daughters grow directly and indirectly. Indeed, most of his major investments are in Ile-Ife. Worthy of note also is that though he does not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity or religion, most of his projects are handled by local contractors who are mostly Ife indigenes. This man loves Ife more than his own soul.
In attesting to Adedoyin's love for Ife, a Professor from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife once said at a function that: “give me an Ife son dead or alive who has the records of Dr Adedoyin in Ile-Ife.”
As the single largest private individual employer of labour in Osun State, Dr Abdulrahaman Adedoyin pays over 40 million naira every month as wages and salaries to hundreds of staff in his conglomerate. This is aside from millions of naira in philanthropic acts like bursary awards, scholarships, monthly cash gifts to widows, those in need and the less privileged as well as donations to many other noble causes. Adedoyin gives not because he needs praises, reward or votes.
Despite all these, people still want him to do more. He gives because he loves his people. Indeed show us any Ife son who has displayed this type of love for his fatherland.
A first class Oba once described Adedoyin as a living legend and a special gift from God to Ife people and the Yorubas.
It is therefore rather unfortunate that, like the Biblical story of Jesus who was not recognized in His native Nazareth but accepted all over the world, Dr. Abdulrahaman Adedoyin, the Maye of Yoruba Land is not appreciated by many indigenes of Ife today despite his efforts. The story became bad after his contest for the Stool of the Ooni with the present Ooni of Ife. After the contest, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi visited him and he also expected the Maye to reciprocate the good gesture. However, Dr. Adedoyin, the Maye of Yoruba Kingdom said: "For spiritual reasons, I will not be able to go to the Ooni's palace to greet him."
Above was what some miscreants and enemies of Ife mischievously misconstrued and said that Maye has proclaimed himself to be the Ooni in his house. This is mischievous, senseless and bereft of any logical reasoning. Maye is NOT Ooni. Maye's dressing in traditional attires does not confer or transform and/or portray him as the Ooni. Maye sitting on special chairs at times does not confer the title of the Ooni on him. All his (Maye) insignias and staff of office show at all material time that he always portray himself as the Maye of Yoruba land NOT Ooni of Ife. He (Maye) therefore advises those who are heating up the polity and waiting to benefit from any ensued chaos (awon arije nidi madaru) to allow peace reign in Ile Ife. Maye has surely disappointed those waiting for any negative reaction from him.
Soonest, Dr. Abdulrahaman Adedoyin, the Maye of Yoruba land and HIM, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife will meet, parley and plan big for the growth and development of Ile Ife. "As I am speaking with you, myself and Ooni talk"
To all the politicians; the Maye is not interested in politics or contesting any political position. He is also not interested in any chieftaincy be it the Ooni or Emese. According to him: "As a matter of fact, I have discouraged my children from being interested in any position be it political or chieftaincy in Ile-Ife."
In Ile-Ife, Ooni Chieftaincy is rotated among 4 Ruling Houses. So if he wishes Ooni Ogunwusi dead, how is he going to be the Ooni when the throne will automatically go to the next Ruling House?" Maye is not contesting any post or position with anyone. Maye is contented with what he has and who he is.
Who therefore wants Maye dead?
Kiniun o joye. Oluwa Oba lode lade ooooo.
